I am a lifetime diaper lover and I became an active ABDL in January 2019 after I discovered ABDL and ABDL diapers. I am fascinated by this lifestyle and spent the last 6 months researching and analyzing this lifestyle.
I encourage all members to add their stats, findings, views, and comments. I hope this read brings some reassurance to anyone new to ABDL or to any outsiders who may have visited this site out of pure amazement and disbelief that people like wearing and using diapers, or if you have just discovered that your partner or family member is a diaper lover. It will also help us all understand a little bit more.
One thing that's true is that nearly all diaper lovers have been a diaper lover since their first memories, such as when they were a toddler.
ABDL diapers slowly started hitting the markets in 2010 and around 2014 things started to grow as new companies started showing up and online shopping became more popular. Today (2019) there are dozens of ABDL diaper companies who are making their own brand of diapers, most of these companies are doing well and expanding. There are many dormant diaper lovers out there who are unaware of ABDL and ABDL diapers/lifestyle. As awareness grows the volume of AB/DLs grows.
It’s difficult to know exactly how many diaper lovers there are, if I were to guess, I’d say if you were in a typical mall on a Friday evening you would be lucky if 1 or 2 out of the 1,000 people there were a diaper lover wearing a diaper. Maybe in a city of 200,000 there could be 1,000 diaper lovers (0.5%); but that number could easily be higher.
Try searching google for things like "I want to wear..." or "my child wants to wear..." or "my husband wants to wear..." and you will find that the word diaper auto fills as it is a frequent google search, indicating it's not an uncommon search and it's quite common for children, mostly boys, to want to regress and wear diapers. Given the chance or opportunity many children would wear a diaper and pee in it.
I have estimated that companies like Rearz and Tykables have at least 30–50 non commercial online orders per day. The average ‘diaper lover’ might use 10–20 diapers per month. Some of these companies have struggled with stock due to high demand. Rearz, located in Ontario Canada, recently moved to a larger warehouse.
There is also strong growth in how many ABDL diapers and accessories are becoming available on Amazon, the volume of ABDL diaper brands and accessories in June compared to January has grown significantly . People are discovering this enjoyable lifestyle and it’s catching on.
The odd pharmacy has even started to carry ABDL diapers and traditional online vendors like agecomfort.com have added an ABDL category for incontinence. As of late 2018 agecomfort started carrying their own inhouse brand ABDL diaper, in spring 2019 they added a 2nd line of ABDL diapers which is a good indicator that the 1st line was successful. Sales are driven by both diaper lovers and people dealing with incontinence; but these people with incontinence identify as a diaper lover; why else would they want cute diapers? Big names like Depends and Northshore have started selling colorful and printed diapers.
There is a large portion of diaper lovers who have autism or have limited movement, such as cerebral palsy; being diapered offers calm, security, comfort, and a feeling of being youthful.
Some diaper lovers are senior citizens who at heart feel much younger than their actual age, wearing diapers is a great way to feel young and allows them to have a little bit of fun and spice up their day!
Many diaper lovers, both incontinent and continent, find joy in doing yard work and house work while wearing a diaper. It's fascinating and joyful.
The list goes on.
I haven't found any ABDL diaper related pop culture references, other than Miley Cyrus hinting at being a baby, and the rumor that Brad Pitt likes to wear diapers behind closed doors.
My biggest take away for anyone is that ABDL diapers are fun and comfortable to wear, and for most of us they bring calm and security. If you decide you want to wet yourself in your diaper then you will quickly find out that the diaper soaks up the pee quickly and you remain dry and comfortable. If you decide you want to go for the full experience and mess yourself then yes, its an exhilarating feeling.
